A graduate of the Roehrich School of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg, where she has a degree in Painting as well as the Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, where she majored in the History of Art, she has also completed a course on scripting and theatre direction at the “Lenfilm” studio.
Katerina is a laureate of the international The Touch Sand-Art Competition in 2015 and 2017 in Ukraine. In 2017, sur obtained the Grand-Prix of The Touch Competition for the Best Video for the project Bach on Sand with the violinist Dmitri Makhtin.
In 2016, she became a curator of the first international exhibition of Sand-Graphics “Beyond the Time” at the Mariinsky Concert Hall.
She is an excellent portraitist and landscapist who explore the various facets of this art: classic drawing, graphic art, snow graphics (white sand drawing), stars graphics (glitter drawing), sand animation as well as live performances.
To Katerina, sand animation is a small theatre where the stage is her light table on which fleeting stories play out. A handful of sand comes to life with a few gracious gestures. Katerina’s works stand out not only for their remarkable technique of ingenious drawings in Lyrical Symbolism style, but also for their amazing transformations and great musicality.
She regularly collaborates with theatre and cinema directors, musicians and actors. The 29-years-old has already appeared on stage at the Hermitage Theatre in Saint-Petersburg, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic, the Great Concert-Hall of Saint-Petersburg, the Russian Painters Union, The Yerevan Philharmonic (Armenia), the Russian-Chinese festival “Eternal Fire” and the Lev Dodine’s Europe Theatre in Saint-Petersburg. She also performs in Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Turkey and various Russian cities.
Among her works: Between Good and Evil, The Siege of Leningrad (live performance to Shostakovich’s 7th Symphony) and other works in tribute to WWII, Tolstoy’s War and Peace, Contemplation on Bach's music, Yuri Gagarin fairytales such as Pinocchio, Hedgehog in the Fog and The Nutcracker at the Mariinsky Theatre, The Bears of Kamchatka for "Lesfilm Productions", The Fisherman and the Goldfish on Pushkin’s fairytale.
In 2017, Katerina produced her first theatre production with sand-art The Star-Child, based on O. Wilde's fable.
In 2018, she became first guest sand-artist of the St Petersburg Youth Philharmonic with whom she performs The Fisherman and the Goldfish on Pushkin’s fairytale and Carnaval des animaux by Saint-Saëns.
She collaborates with orchestras for many innovative productions: the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra for Debussy Children's Corner and Fauré Dolly Suite, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky and Mermaid on Grieg's music, the Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky, the Cannes Regional Orchestra and the violinist Dmitri Makhtin for Prokofiev's Concerto n°2 for violin and Pulcinella by Stravinsky, the Sinfonia Varsovia for Scheherazade by/ Rimsky-Korsakov.
She also develops chamber music projects: Bach on Sand with Dmitri Makhtin, Children's Corner with the piano duo Anne-Lise Gastaldi et David Saudubray.
